Oscars 2013
First off, I would like to thank you all for even taking the time to read my little fashion blog. This is something I started doing to pass the time in between commercials, the five plus hours between red carpet and the actual show, and it has become something I really look forward to writing and reviewing. Today I had the great pleasure to actually get to style hair for a red carpet guest of the Academy Awards and Governor's Ball! It was very exciting and a long time dream come true for me. This time around on my fashion review, I will still highlight my favorites, and instead of a worst dressed, I am going to be changing it to "what I would do differently". This is all only meant to be in fun and I don't want to stay up at night because I called anyone "worst dressed". We have so many dresses to cover so I will get right to it!
Ok, the first two on my favorites list are my metallic ladies, Naomi Watts and Halle Berry. I love the cutout on Naomi's dress, it creates a futuristic frame while still remaining feminine and strong. The hair pulled back helps showcase the architecture of the dress and the nude makeup doesn't detract either. Well done! Halle Berry wears an art deco design, I love that she changed it up and went with something reminiscent of Hollywoods golden era. She is such a gorgeous woman, and I really commend her for pushing the fashion tonight on the red carpet.
My favorite classic silhouettes, safe but still breathtaking, go to Charlize Theron and Zöe Saldana. Charlize works the hair, the dress and that face! OMG! Love the strength of this look, though it may be a bit reminiscent of Anne Hathaway at the Globes, she turns it on its head with her attitude. Zöe looks sweet and seductive in her number. I love the belt, love the floral ruching along the sweetheart and I love love love the train and depth of the grey and black. Gorgeous!
Ok I am a sucker for a ball gown ( big surprise!) and these two dressed exactly as I would expect a star would for the Oscars. Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence got ready for this like they knew that they would be winning and that their images would be shown in years to come. Amy looks like a princess and I really enjoy the ethereal tulle on the lower half. Gorgeous hairstyle, and the soft haircolor complements the steely hue of the gown. Jennifer picked a more flattering bodice this time around vs. her Globes choice, and I like it. This is a very timeless choice and as of press time she hasn't won, though with this dress she has!
Giving us the blues and Billie Holiday would be proud! In this category we have Helen Hunt, Jennifer Hudson, Quvenzhané Wallis and Reese Witherspoon. The winner of this category is J.Hud hands down but more on that later. Falling into what I would do differently for Helen Hunt is fabric choice or a steamer. Unintentional wrinkles on your dress is unfortunate, though I do like her hair and necklace. I also like that she went green with her dress choice and a major retailer that itself is going green in its production side. Quvezhané is very cute and age appropriate, I love that she is having fun while still dressing up and the bag is so fetch! Reese works the waves and I like the color, though again the fabric seems heavy and something about the fit on the bottom seems off and not pleasant. Jennifer has the sparkle, love the draping, love the bangs and sleek finish, she looks smart. She is acting like lady and thinking like a superstar.
Seeing double has me seeing red! This group of women seems like they shared stylists, right?
Jennifer Aniston does her signature look, its effortless and very her, I would just change something about it, maybe pulling her hair half up and more styled, or even going blonder to just switch it up. Olivia Munn's hair is striking and elegant and I like the bodice. The bottom portion has a good silhouette, but its just too much fabric, and it needs to be pulled in some. Sally Field, I love that she did something different and did a train and what a train! This would be a total win if the hair had just a bit more polish and the waistline had something to bring in the shape and add interest. Jacki Weaver wears a way similar dress to Olivia (what are the odds??) and the tailoring on this one is completely off. The mermaid action overtakes her small frame. I would get rid of the three quarter sleeves and do an off the shoulder accent, work more detailed ruching on the waistline and then switch out the bottom to a ball gown finish, pop some platforms on underneath to add height and since no one can see the shoes anyway, pick comfy ones.
Nudes and neutrals. Brandi Glanville, we get it, you love your body and I love the ruffle finish on the bottom of this dress, though I would start it just at the knee or slightly lower and I would completely rework the sweetheart of this and make it more sweet, less heart attack. The color is just a little flat too in my taste, though I do like her hair. Kristen Stewart does it simple this time out (maybe because of the crutches?) and I just wish she would glam it up more. She looks so stunning in her magazine layouts, if only she could add that to her red carpet endeavors. I picture her in something by Alexander McQueen, she can carry that off no problem. Octavia Spencer looks gorgeous! The entire look is flawless, can we just keep nominating her so we can look forward to seeing her at these events?
Jessica Chastain should get an award for working the red carpet this past season and last year as well. I love that she's daring, she makes conscious effort and remembers what she wore before to create a repertoire that will go down in a fashion coffee book someday.
Details in black! Adele does a 180 in dress from her Grammys choice. I love her hair and the dress is just okay for me. I would work some cleavage into it with a square outline on top and plus isn't that one of the perks of being a new mommy? But I must say I'm very excited to hear her sing! I like Helena Bonham Carter's dress. It completely suits her personality and I like the ruffled bottom. I would keep the thatchy texture of her hair but I would make it a bit more runway or couture and still be different. Also what about a black sapphire necklace or even dark blue to really finish this look. Sandra Bullock drips in beads and I really like this look on her. Sleek lines with the hair, interesting patterns on the dress, its just so fluid, and it gives me a happy feeling. Nicole Kidman looks like her dress is made of molten metal, love the shine, and the top portion, though I could do without the swirls at the bottom. It gives it an octopus finish and I would've just stuck with a repeat of the gold accent that is on top, just staggered through the hemline.
A little of this and that. Anne Hathaway wears "an apron" as my friend Darren put it, and I can see that with the cut of this dress. The fabric isn't my favorite, nor the hemline. She has done so well this season and the buildup perhaps has me expecting a bit more from her. I would change the hemline and sleek the bang a bit more, and switch out the necklace for a bracelet. I love Melissa McCarthy's big hair, I would just tailor it a bit more at the sides to accentuate the volume on top and add height to her face shape. WIth her gown, I would move the ruching up just a bit to her waistline, and put more sparkle along the neckline. I give Amanda Seyfried props for changing it up tonight with the hair, and I like the appliqué on her dress. I would like to see her in a different color and what about the dress in the background picture behind her? She would look stunning in that! Catherine Zeta Jones looks incredible, and ageless. She is fit to be Oscars mistress in this ensemble!
Spilling it on the red carpet are Tabatha Coffey and Kelly Rowland. I think Tabatha looks great, though I would've lost the gloves. I like the pomp hairstyle for this event and I just had to add her to my list and cannot wait for her show to start up again. Kelly looks great again, and I like the asymmetrical feature here, but I'm not loving the high split, just 'liking' it this time around. But she still looks marvelous. I think they kept the red carpet fun tonight.
Valentines at the Oscars! I love Eddie Redmayne's suit, it is tailored to perfection! He really beams in it and his hair adds a youthful spark to it. Channing Tatum gets upstaged by Jenna Dewan in her gorgeous maternity gown. I would go for a bit more tailoring on his suit pants, there's a bit too much break in the hem. George Clooney looks ok, but his date Stacy Kiebler is a knockout! That dress is perfection and stunning. Best dressed couple goes to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. She has looked so stylish at each event and tonight is a continuum. I love the color, love the necklace, and I like that he wore a three piece suit.
Wrapping it up tonight are Chris Pine and Bradley Cooper. Chris Pine goes double breasted , its different and looks great on him, but then again, he's Chris Pine. I also love Bradley Cooper's suit, it too is spot on, and I love his date choice even more. :) I think his hair is long for a role he's doing, or at least I hope it is. He looks so good with shorter hair, or maybe a side part, but again, its Bradley Cooper so theres nothing to complain about.
And that wraps up this years Oscars fashion blog and our awards season. Perhaps I will see you at the MTV Movie awards if there is something to report there. Take care of yourself and others!
