Golden Globes 2013

  Golden Globes 2013

My first group of favorites of the night include Claire Danes, with her slinky siren gown.  Wearing red on a red carpet is very risky, but this works and explains how she swiftly steals husbands. Jessica Alba channels a bad 80's prom dress, but does it right by turning it on its head making it old hollywood glamorous.

The naughty and nice award go to Katharine McPhee with her 'Smash'-ing low-cut ensemble, daring and a great choice in my opinion, especially when you're trying to bring exposure to a late start TV show with mediocre ratings.  Amanda Seyfried looks heavenly, though safe, and is effortlessly beautiful.

Sally Field goes for a classic silhouette, which works on her but I wish it was bit more flattering. Anne Hathaway is dressed to win and it is clear that her decision was planned with the thought that she is taking home the prize in her category and will look fantastic in all the news entertainment reels.

I have to give credit to these two for being more daring and adding some excitement to the red carpet.  Im sure there will be a clear divide amongst people on their choices and for me I give Marion Cotillard the edge over Lucy Liu tonight.  Lucy looks a little too costume-y, though I do love the print, but the dress is just too big and Scarlett O'Hara-esque. Marion takes the asymmetrical to the extreme and on camera it looked better than in this photograph, I just wish she would have done a little more with her hair.

Our hosts for the evening, ditch their standard looks, and I love it! They looked the perfect couple with their masculine and feminine themed choices, Amy added sex appeal with the plunge and those shoes!  I love Tina's hair and the dress, but it loses me towards the bottom with the hemline.

Angelina Jolie's leg makes an appearance in the dresses of Eva Longoria and Halle Berry. Eva's dress is a bit too macabre for my taste and not appealing in this photo, but when she presented on stage, it looked spectacular.  Love her up style hair as well, classic and romantic to soften the strong overall look.  Halle comes across a bit casual to me in this, but the print is flattering if a little too St. Tropez.

Ok, now I love Jennifer Lawrence, and the bottom two thirds of this dress, but the top of it just doesn't work especially on her incredible body! She hasn't had a misstep and this is pretty close to it, but she's so appealing so I will overlook this if she redeems herself at the Oscars.  I really like Jessica Chastain's hair and makeup and the color of the dress but the fit isn't right and could've been perfection with tailoring.

In the battle of young starlets Hayden Panattiere nails it with perfect hair, makeup and a gown that gives her petite frame height. She could've done without the clutch though. Taylor Swift's gown has great form, but needed steaming or different fabric and the hair is just not right for the look. Not a total loss, but definitely not a win. And did your see her reaction when Adele (who looked incredible btw, but I couldn't find a photo of her at press time) took home the prize for Best song?!! Don't roll your eyes too hard Taylor!

Two usually best dressed actresses, but not so much tonight, Jennifer Lopez wears her Abuela's tablecloth and Naomi Watts looks grandmotherly in a too vintage piece and hairstyle. They are both showstoppers and unfortunately not in a good way tonight.

Emily Blunt keeps pregnancy rumors at bay in this smoldering gold number, great updo, and gorgeous makeup. All of it, just stunning!  Kate Hudson does power bitch right with the shoulder pads, big belt but doesn't overdo it and downplays the hair.

Megan Fox and Amy Adams wear virtually the same dress and cancel each other out. Pale colored gowns and Veronica Lake waves seemed to be the big trend tonight along with two pieced numbers  and midriff baring garments.

Nicole Richie was my wild card favorite with this 60's inspired locks, and blue frock. It went a bit far with the blue eyeshow but seeing this on the red carpet made me very happy so i had to give her a shout out.  Love, love, love it!  Zooey Deschanel goes 1950's in her red outfit and its very suiting on her skin coloring and I love the necklace and simple hairstyle.

So my worst dressed category go to Alyssa Milano and Mayim Bialik. The color on Alyssa is all wrong, hate the middle part in the hair, its a horrid fit and the hemline isn't even Project Runway worthy.  Mayim isn't 'Blossom'-ing in her duds, its just dowdy and depressing.  Perhaps they view getting on any worst dressed list as great press and premeditated these bad decisions?

Continuing on my worst dressed list... Rachel Weisz is wearing the basic black dress... and then some. Although the hair is a win, the bottom of this is just an eyesore.  I love Lena Dunham and just wish she would've picked something more to her personality. This does her no favors, wrong color, way too much fabric, I feel she should show more leg and do something more vintage and colorful.

I hope you enjoyed this years Golden Globes, Amy and Tina were a breath of fresh air and come back to read my Oscars 2013 fashion review!
